As a parent knowing that your child is taught the proper way to swim and enjoy themselves in the water safely is necessary for piece of mind.
Luckily the Waukesha County Parks system offers swimming lessons throughout the summer months and will continue through August.
Learning how to swim is one of the most important lessons that your child will possess as they progress into adulthood. Learning how to swim safely and not foolishly is also very important. How often our children head the advise of parental supervision but take great admission to the advice of swim instructors.
Learning how to swim opens up the doors for children to be confident while at the beach or pool, and continual lessons throughout childhood into grammar school years are very important. Swimming is the best exercise that a child or adult can do to keep in shape. It’s also a very highly regarded accomplishment to qualify for swim teams in high school and college.
Coming from a family of life guards and hearing the dangers of lakes and pools is very important and has kept me away from dangerous places to swim regarding lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Swim instructors will teach your child how to swim properly.
However, that doesn’t mean that your children will be aware of words such as “undertow.” It’s also very important that they are aware of the difference between a pool and a beach. This is information that you must teach your children before they hit the beach if they are not aware of it.
The lead cause of drowning is lack of supervision, meaning parents that aren’t watching the kids. This is a huge pet peeve for lifeguards. It takes only a few seconds for something to happen so always be aware of what your child is doing at the lake.
The county of Waukesha offers six different locations for individuals to swim. Lifeguards are on duty every day which is wonderful but your child cannot hit the water if they don’t have the tools to swim. Flotation devices aren’t allowed in all Waukesha County parks that provide swimming and they do not replace the ability to fend for one-self.
The swimming lessons that are offered are all done in two-week sessions. Naga-Waukee Park in Delafield, Fox Brook Park in Brookfield, and Menomonee Park in Menomonee Falls are still offering classes this summer.
Naga-Waukee Park offers swim lessons from July 11 – 22, 2011. Menomonee Park’s session is held from July 11 – 22, 2011. Fox Brook Park’s swimming lessons are held from July 25 – August 5, 2011.Share this post via:
