The man who committed suicide on Tuesday night has now been identified as 35-year-old Chad Cross. Cross shot himself after a female friend called the police at 8:14 p.m to report that he was suicidal and carrying a gun.
Cross exited a car as officers approached the scene and began to walk down the 800 block of Manor Drive near Kensington Drive when police heard a gunshot. Cross shot himself in the chest and fell to the ground.
Cross’s female friend who originally called 911, told the police she believed that he was carrying explosive devices. A package was found near the man’s body. The Milwaukee County Bomb Squad was called to the scene.
They found the package contained black powder and ammunition for a muzzle loaded weapon. A robot was used to move the package to a safe location where it was destroyed.
The Bomb Squad was also called to Cross’s residence on South Street where police found a suicide note and tools and materials to make a bomb.
UPDATE:
Here’s a picture of Cross in 2010 during a Civil War reenactment that he was participating in. As with any suicide, seeing anyone take their own life is a very sad experience that we always could have been avoided.

AroundWaukesha.Com sends out our deepest condolences to friends and family members that Chad left behind.

My thoughts and prayers are with his children and family members. You were a good man Chad, and you will be greatly missed.
Thank you very much for your condolences.
I have known the cross family for years. Chad’s brother & I (Kyle) basically grew up together. I remember Chad being a very talented drummer back in the day and lots of fond memories. I’m still very shocked by all this and send out my love & prayers to all family involved. God bless Chad you will always be missed!
Thank you very much, Chad is missed by so many. Kandice and I are making “Remember Chad” Bracelets. Please let me know if you would like one. They can sold by Kandice and myself, or basically any local bar within the Waukesha/Pewaukee Area.
Chad, my heart aches for the pain that you were in. May you now find the peace you were looking for.
I never knew chad but he was a really nice guy and I wish I would have gotten to know him more
