“Wings Over Waukesha” with an Expanded Air show and Aviation Exposition for 2011
Wings over Waukesha will be hosted this weekend, August 27th and 28th at the Waukesha County Airport. Saturday’s show will be from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a hot air balloon “glow” from 6 to 9 p.m. featuring Wind Dancer Balloon Promotions and other local professional balloon companies. Sunday’s show will be from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. “This will be the first full air show at Waukesha County Airport in about 30 years and it promises to be a great one,” said Kurt Stanich, Chairman of the 2011 Wings over Waukesha event.
Both aviation and military enthusiasts will want to see this year’s event with the expansion of daily air shows, featuring contemporary and vintage aircraft from both military and civilian aviation. With over 7,000 visitors in both 2009 and 2010, Wings over Waukesha decided to bring in more aircraft displays in 2011 to ensure that there’s practically always something to see on both the ground and in the air throughout the show.
The Yankee Air Museum in Detroit will be bringing its fully-restored World War II era B-25 “Mitchell” bomber and the Minneapolis U.S. Air Force Reserve will bring in a C-130 transport plane to participate in the show and remain on display for guests to get a closer look. The show has also booked four of the best aerobatics performers in the country, including Dave Dacy-Tony Kazian wingwalking, Dr Bill Blank Super Decathlon aerobatics, Jim “Fang” Maroney Super Chipmunk aerobatics, and John Mohr Stearman barnstorming aerobatics. The shows will also include a tribute to Waukesha County members of the U.S. Armed Forces who have been lost in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
This family-friendly exposition provides a great opportunity to learn about flying, aircraft and the important role of military aviation. Visitors have an opportunity to meet veteran aircraft pilots, as well as getting close-up views of their restored planes from the mid-1900s. With sunny weather forecasted for this weekend, the air show will surely be an exciting event.
